The challenge

The challenge

The challenge

In 2024 Fairford Academy Barnehurst, a primary academy in Bexley, offered to host research sessions while Talamo was developing its dyslexia screener. Every task had to be tried with pupils on everyday school devices before it could be used at scale, so the school’s help mattered.

Aman Aujla, now Head of School, coordinated Fairford’s part in the research.

What they did

What they did

What they did

  1. Hosted research sessions. Between March and July 2024, Year 4 and Year 5 classes and smaller groups of pupils worked through the tasks on the school’s Chromebooks, with staff setting up rooms and headphones.

  2. Saw the research through. Staff made sure every pupil finished their assessments, completing the school’s part in the final phase of research in July 2024.

  3. Tested the new schools platform. In September 2024, ahead of the pilot launch, staff tried the new platform for schools with their own pupils.

  4. Kept helping. The school offered further testing as Talamo developed.

The impact

The impact

The impact

  • A say in the screener. Feedback from Fairford’s pupils and staff was part of the research behind Talamo’s dyslexia screener.

  • Early access to the schools platform. Fairford was the first school to use it.

  • Now screening its own pupils. The school uses Talamo to understand the needs of its own pupils.
